Joseph Michael Pizzuto-Pomaco, much-beloved father, husband, friend and Jesus' follower went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Tuesday, 27 September, after a valiant battle against MND/ALS.
Joe is survived by Julia, his wife of 31 years, and their four children, Anna, Josh, John, and Lydia.
Joe was born on 11 May 1965 in Northern New Jersey, where he lived until moving to Florida as a teenager.
He graduated from the University of Florida in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications/Broadcast Journalism and subsequently began a career in public radio.
In 2012 he completed a Master's Degree in Multicultural Education at Eastern University.
After marrying Julia in August 1991, the couple moved to Scotland where they served with Scripture Union for a Gap Year called Reachout, sharing the gospel with children and young people and making lifelong friends.
Upon returning to the United States, Joe restarted his career as a producer and host at Philadelphia public radio station WHYY, where he worked from 1988 to 2002.
After the birth of triplets Anna, John, and Josh in 2002, Joe became a stay at home father for several years until transitioning into a teaching career.
Joe taught at several private and public schools finishing his career Cumberland Christian School in Vineland until the family moved to Scotland in 2020, focussing primarily on History.
The Pizzuto-Pomaco family grew in 2018, as Joe and Julia welcomed their fourth child, Lydia, into the family.
Joe had a lifelong passion for classical music, even hosting several classical radio shows. He loved watching Philadelphia sports with Josh and John, and was ecstatic when the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in 2018.
Even as his illness worsened, Joe remained committed to his faith, fully believing in the hope of the resurrection, which he shared with all he met. He continued to help run the Facebook page and website at Peterhead New Parish Church, where Julia serves as minister, until the last.
You are welcome to join the Pizzuto-Pomaco family for two opportunities in the coming weeks. In both of these settings, we would invite you to wear colourful clothing. We do not want to have a somber funeral but rather to celebrate the fact that Joe as a believer is now completely healed and living with Jesus in eternity!
